Endoscopic Discectomy is the surgical removal of herniated disc/bulging disc material that presses on a nerve root or the spinal cord.
Endoscopic Discectomy is a common type of laminectomy, and is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove damaged disc material that is causing pain in the lower back (lumbar) or neck (cervical). The Discectomy is a x-ray (fluoroscope) guided procedure, with direct visualization a piece of the herniated disc can be pulled out with a grasper, or if it is a small disc bulge or annular tear, it can be treated with a laser, which vaporizes disc material, kills pain nerves inside the disc, and hardens the disc to prevent further leakage of disc material to the surrounding nerves.
