About Telehealth

What is Performance Telehealth?
Performance Telehealth is the practice of providing necessary healthcare to patients from our office to your home, using telecommunications technology. We use this technology to treat patients using the Internet and/or telephone in the form of real-time video chats and secure email.
Are Performance Telemedicine and Performance Telehealth the same thing?
The terms PerformanceTelemedicine and Performance Telehealth are often used as if they were the same thing, but technically Performance Telemedicine is a subset of Performance Telehealth. The term Telemedicine refers specifically to patient and health care provider encounters for diagnosis and treatment. The term Telehealth is a broader term to include Telemedicine, but also includes non-clinical uses of telecommunications technology such as for preventative, educational, and health-related administrative activities.
Do I have to meet with a provider in person before I can utilize Performance Telehealth?
Telemedicine services are provided to existing PSSM patients. Services rendered will be billed to your insurance for these visits.
Do you provide Telehealth services during COVID-19?
While the restrictions on new patients are currently lifted, if you are a new patient that requires PSSM Telehealth services, we encourage you to call us for additional details.
Is Performance Telehealth technology difficult for me to set up?
We’ve worked very hard to choose software that makes the telehealth process as simple as possible for you to connect with us through. We use a Secure Video platform using Spruce Health to provide you with a free download of the app and user-friendly experience. If you have any experience with online apps, this process should be familiar to you. Need help doing so, give us a call.
What are the steps for setting up a telehealth consult?
To schedule a telehealth session, you will be need to download the secure Spruce Health app and set up your account.

About the Software

What technical setup will I need?
Not much. You will need access to a smartphone with video (camera) and audio (microphone) capabilities and the ability to download the Spruce Health App. The setup is simple, and we direct you through the process through our correspondence with you via email. Currently the app is not available via desktop and laptop computers.
Can we just do this the old fashioned way and just talk on the phone instead?
True Telemedicine visit must be a HIPAA-compliant video conference application. Telemedicine during COVID-19 outbreak can be via phone but only while the emergency is present. Do note, usually refilling of controlled substances are not allowed via telemedicine. However, this can be done during the COVID-19 outbreak as a limited time exception while the emergency is present.
Can I use my smartphone or tablet to video chat?
Currently, the Spruce Health app is only available via smartphones only. It is not available via tablet, laptop or desktop devices. We hope to have this option available in the future.

You’ll also potentially avoid having to go through procedures that you could have avoided with the right advice beforehand.
Will insurance pay for Performance Telehealth?
While most insurance companies do cover virtual telemedicine visits using a HIPAA-compliant telemedicine platform, we recommend you check with your insurance company for details and for details regarding any specific terms, conditions and/or exclusions within your policy.
Is the quality of care the same as an in-person visit?
Great question! We strive to provide the same level of care in all platforms of our services. PerformanceTelehealth as a method of healthcare delivery is confirmed by years of research and demonstrations. Telehealth, especially for educational and consultative purposes has been found to be a safe, cost-effective and convenient way to provide healthcare services and/or education to patients.
Where should I be to best connect with you over my Performance Telehealth visit?
We suggest finding a quiet room, facing a light source with a secure Wi-Fi Signal.
