Incontinence
Although it’s not everyone’s favorite thing to talk about, urinary incontinence can affect anyone at some point in life. It can happen at different times and for different reasons, but when it does happen its something that you will want to take care of!
What are some causes of incontinence?
Some women experience urinary incontinence during pregnancy and after childbirth. The growing fetus puts pressure down on the bladder limiting the amount of urine that it can hold. The muscles that prevent urine leakage can also be stretched or damaged during delivery.
As we age, we lose muscle mass. This is true of the muscles that prevent urine loss as well. Older individuals may have more difficulty holding urine than they did when they were younger.
How can we help?
In many cases, urinary incontinence can be treated effectively with a pelvic floor and core-strengthening program. The physical therapists at Performance Spine and Sports Medicine can design an exercise program for you and help you to determine if lifestyle changes will help to control your symptoms. You can feel confident that our professional and caring staff will create a comfortable environment for you to address this sensitive issue.
